Across
Alberta general municipal elections are held every three years for mayors,
councillors, municipal district electoral area directors, and school board
trustees pursuant to the Alberta Local Authorities.
General voting day is always the third Monday in October. The
next Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010. Candidates
are voted in for a three-year term. Nomination Day is 4 weeks before
Election Day, Monday, September 20, 2010.
Who can Vote?
You may vote in an Alberta municipal election;
-
if you are a Canadian citizen,
-
if you are 18 years of age or more on election day;
-
if you have lived in Alberta for the six consecutive months
preceding election day, and
-
if your place of residence is located in the municipality on
election day.
Who is eligible to run as a Council Candidate?
You qualify as a candidate for Town Council if you:
-
are eligible to vote in that election;
-
have been a resident of the local jurisdiction, and the
electoral division in which you are running for the 6 consecutive months
preceding nomination day, and
-
are not otherwise ineligible or disqualified.
